This
excursion combines Sitka’s two most popular wildlife-viewing
experiences: the Sea Otter & Wildlife Quest and a guided tour
through the Alaska Raptor Center.
Board a deluxe, waterjet-powered sightseeing vessel and set out to explore one of the most beautiful marine wilderness areas in Alaska. You’ll have the opportunity to observe sea otters, whales, Steller sea lions, porpoise, harbor seals, brown bears, Sitka blacktail deer, and a variety of marine birds. An onboard naturalist will explain the workings of this remarkable ecosystem as your skilled Captain maneuvers the vessel to provide the best-possible views.
Upon
return to Sitka you will take a scenic, narrated drive to visit the worldfamous
Alaska Raptor Center, where injured “birds of prey” receive
medical treatment. A wildlife interpreter will guide you through
the newly constructed Bald Eagle Flight Building, and you will meet the
some of the birds perched in outdoor habitats. Free time is allowed
to browse the gift area and bird exhibits before returning by motorcoach
to the Visitor’s Dock.
This
tour guarantees you will see an otter, or a whale, or a bear. If
not, you’ll receive a $100 cash refund ($50 refund per child) at
the end of the voyage. The tour also includes complimentary admission
into St Michael’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral, should you choose
to explore the area on your own either before or after the tour.
Note: Dress warmly and bring a rainproof jacket to wear on the observation deck, and to enjoy the outdoor bird habitats and rainforest trail at the Raptor Center. Guests on afternoon departures will want to visit the cathedral prior to the tour – just show your Sea Otter & Raptor Center tour voucher at the cathedral for admission.
